Youth Ministries

We have a number of ministries for our younger generation, with unique opportunities for all ages. Read below to learn more and get involved!

GOYA

What is GOYA?

Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) is a ministry of Greek Orthodox parishes nationwide. The mission of GOYA Ministry is to strengthen the relationship of young Orthodox Christians with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The program works to educate and edify young members of the Church, encouraging them to become active sacramental participants in the life of the Body of Christ. This ministry offers them the opportunity to experience the Faith, ultimately leading them to Salvation.

What do you do?

We meet regularly every other Tuesday. Please join our St. Spyridon Facebook Group for event announcements, updates, and photos.

Our meetings bring together teenagers (7th-12th grade) in learning and fellowship. We usually spend some time learning about an aspect of Orthodox Christianity, followed by fun activities. Because GOYA is a ministry of the Church, we split our time learning about the faith through discussions or service projects, and the rest of the time host events such as dances and apple picking. We can't wait for you to join us.

How do I get involved?

Please contact Fr. Nicholas Livingston (831.331.3969) or by email (frnicholas.livingston@gmail.com) for more information.

HOPE/JOY

The Junior Orthodox Youth (JOY) group of our Cathedral is a wonderful program for children in grades 3-6 (ages 7-12). The Hellenic Orthodox Primary Education (HOPE) group is open to children in grades kindergarten through 2nd grade. The JOY&HOPE group meet together once a month, on Friday evening, for 1 1/2 hours. Currently, we have 25 children registered in our program, but are looking to grow! The goal of this ministry is to help our youth grow closer to Jesus Christ.

The JOY & HOPE meeting is an opportunity to participate in fellowship with peers and adult advisors who offer guidance in experiencing and exploring the Orthodox Faith. Meetings are conducted in an informal, relaxed atmosphere that brings the youth of Saint Spyridon together in a fun and educational way. We begin each meeting with a prayer and lesson provided by Father Nicholas Livingston. Usually snacks and refreshments are offered and a craft or activity that coordinates with the theme of the night. Besides regular meetings, we offer seasonal activities, field trips and opportunities to give back to the community through charity projects.

Please join the JOY & HOPE group at our next meeting. If you would like more information, please contact Ana Coulouras (508-887-1828) or Colleen Giourelis (508-801-9705).

Come Join Little Angels!

Little Angels is a ministry group for our youngest parishioners ages 1-4. We meet twice a month on Tuesdays. We begin our meetings with story time connected to the theme of the day followed by age appropriate crafts and games. Half-way through our meeting kids enjoy a snack. To close the meeting we introduce basic Orthodox concepts, images, and practices the children can recognize or practice with parents.

Please contact Fr. Nicholas Livingston (831.331.3969) or by email (frnicholas.livingston@gmail.com) for more information.

The Sunday School provides religious education and an Eastern Orthodox Christian foundation for the youth of the community. Classes are available for children ages 4 through high school. The focus of instruction throughout the grades deepens the children's understanding of their faith as well as reinforcing the moral foundations established at home.

Classes are held every Sunday immediately following Holy Communion.
