Special Blessing and Commemoration for
newly appointed
Mayor Konstantina Lukes by Rev. Dean Paleologos and
Rev. Gregory Christakos, Assistant Pastor
On Sunday, January 14, 2007 Rev. Dean Paleologos welcomed the new Mayor of Worcester Konstantina Lukes following Divine Liturgy Sunday morning. Mayor Lukes has been a big supporter and advocate of Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, as well as a parish member. Father Dean was honored to present this spiritual commemoration and blessing to ensure that she is surrounded with guidance, protection and the light of our Lord in her new role as the Mayor of the City.
A bouquet of flowers was presented to Mayor
Lukes, by Christina Mitkonis, President of GOYA. Gus Giannakis,
newly elected Parish Council President was in attendance for
this honor and stated, "Mayor Lukes has always been a big
supporter of our Greek Community at St. Spyridon. On behalf
of the entire Parish Council and our Greek Orthodox Community,
we wish Mayor Lukes good luck in her endeavor."
In attendance were City Council Phil Palmieri,
Barbara Haller, and Gary Rosen. After the ceremony all guests
were welcomed to join the parishioners at the Ladies Philoptochos
"Vasilopita", New Year’s luncheon in the Cotsidas
Auditorium. Hermis Yanis, and his partner Debbie Cote took footage
of this memorable and special event. Hermis has a weekly cable
TV program on WCCA TV13. The commemoration will be covered in
his next show airing on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 7:30pm
and repeated on Friday, January 19, at 9:30am. For those who
